What is solar power and how does it work?

Solar power is the conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity. Solar panels absorb the sunlight using photovoltaic cells and generate direct current (DC) energy. Using an inverter system this energy is converted into AC energy, which flows through an electrical switchboard and gets distributed throughout the electrical circuits. The photovoltaic effect process works by the silicon photovoltaic solar cell absorbs solar radiation. The sun’s rays interact with the silicon cell and when this happens, electrons begin to move and create a flow of electric current. This direct current (DC) electricity is fed through wire to the solar invertor and convert it into AC electricity.

Having a solar system installed as an alternative power source is a long-term cost-effective option allowing you to save money on electricity bills. This involves fitting your roof with solar panels that can store solar energy to be converted into power for your home. You can also earn money back through selling electricity back to the grid and reduce your carbon emissions.
